Beyond Leviathan

Beyond is the story of three characters are haunted by death and the questions it raises. George is an American of humble origins, affected by a "gift" of clairvoyance that weighs on him like a curse. Marie, a French journalist, faces a near-death experience, and has been permanently disrupted. And when Marcus, a young boy from London, to be lost to him the dearest and most essential, it starts desperately seeking answers to his questions. George, Mary and Marcus are guided by the same need to know, the same quest. Their destinies will cross fi ne by trying to answer the mystery of the hereafter.

recent years, Clint Eastwood has made a good habit to chain the good movies at a rate of one every years. There have been a good memory of our fathers was not extra but it was offset by the magnificent Letters from Iwo Jima. Well 2011 will have to be marked with a black stone as Beyond, Clint Eastwood delivers us from memory, the worst film of his career as a director. Certainly, after the disappointment Sofia Coppola , this January is not tender with the big guns.

With this film, Clint Eastwood wanted to play the "author" and give us his film choir. Simply, everyone is not Robert Altman or Paul Thomas Anderson and Clint Eastwood is not visibly comfortable in this exercise. Indeed it is no more comfortable with fantasy, because despite the theme of his film, this one will strive to stay in the farthest possible and to treat its subject as something perfectly normal. Just as some paint with their feet, others communicate with the dead. Hmm not sure. Not especially credible. So I know I will be told that the film's subject is not there, he speaks of Death with a capital M, grief, life ... What it all. Except that these three little stories we tell Clint Eastwood is not very interesting. They are mostly dealt with on a very tearful fashion with soft music, violins and pianos. That plank walls ridicule, especially in the final which should greatly excite the readers biba. It would go well in an adaptation of the latest bestseller or Marc Levy Anna Gavalda. But in a movie directed by Clint Eastwood, it makes stain.

And then there is also the problems of the actors. Even if we have already seen Matt Damon more convincing, he still manages to hold its own in the game But then Cecile de France is just not possible. I like it Cecile de France. It is generally a good actress but her performance here is the level of more beautiful life, like almost all French players elsewhere. Mylène Jampanoï in a small role as a journalist is also very bad. Faced with such a widespread disaster, I wonder if the problem is in the direction of the actors. Clint Eastwood does not speak French and do not know the music of our language, it does not help. Besides that, the special effects are almost completely missed the anecdotal.

The wide array of high quality films that Clint Eastwood made in recent years can easily forgive this big slowdown. But can it would be preferable for the next film he makes a small break, just to relax and choose their history. For I am convinced that this story is not for him.
