How Much Money Do I Need To Own A Platypus

Superman: Red Son - Mark Millar

Writer: Mark Millar
Designers: Dave Johnson & Killian Plunkett
Publisher: DC Comics
Pages: 160
Price: $ 17.99

strange visitor from another world. Able to alter the course of rivers, twisted steel with bare hands and, as a hero of the workers, is fighting endless for Stalin, socialism and the worldwide expansion of the Warsaw Pact. In this amazing version of a familiar story, a Kryptonian rocket crashes to Earth with a baby on board who will one day be the most powerful on the planet. But the ship does not land in America. The child does not grow in Smallville, Kansas, but in a collective farm in Soviet Union! Mark Millar, writer of The Authority and Wanted delivers a very personal interpretation of the myth of Superman.

Whether at Marvel (the series of What if?) Or in DC (Elseworlds), the world of comics has long fed stories reinventing the reality of his heroes, imagining what their destiny would have been if at some point in their lives they had made different decisions. It is in this tradition that fits Superman: Red Son by transposing the son of Krypton in the USSR Communist Stalin, which was not an easy undertaking contrary to what one might think. Indeed, the United States, Superman is an icon. It is part of American popular culture and see it fly the hammer and sickle was something sacrilegious.

Superman: Red Son is a comic book into three parts that takes place over six decades. The story begins in the early 50's when Stalin showed the world the existence of Superman. It is a symbol of the power of the USSR and an ambassador of communism. At first, Superman is not interested in politics. He wants only the happiness of mankind. But Stalin's death, he will take responsibility. Sure Communism is the solution to lasting peace in the world, Superman will continually convince other countries to join him in his fight for a utopian society. But as the proverb says, hell is paved with good intentions. Utopia and Superman soon to turn into dystopia. As a Big Brother, Superman control with an iron fist the Communist world and does not hesitate to re-educate the dissidents. Only Lex Luthor, the smartest man in the world, manages to stand against him.

This story is downright fun to read. Mark Millar (Wanted, Kick-ass, Ultimate X-Men), manages to deliver a story that will appeal to both regulars and newcomers the DC universe. Besides Superman, you meet many famous people. Some have an important role as Wonder Woman, Batman as a leader of Russian resistance, Lex Luthor President of the United States or Green Lantern. Others do a brief stint as Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) and Barry Allen (Flash) in the Daily Globe reporter Jimmy Olsen in the CIA, and even Bizarro Superman Kryto the dog (you'll find ?). Although the story is fairly conventional, Mark Millar tries to go beyond the super heroic and addresses topics which have a glance to Orwell and 1984. It quite refreshing for a comic, especially featuring Superman, although we must recognize that Millar does not fit deep in the criticism of the totalitarian system.

Graphically, it is superb. I love the work done by Johnson and Plunkett. At first, when Stalin was in power, both artists were inspired by drawings of Soviet propaganda. The dominant colors are dark to bring out shades of red. And then gradually as Superman sets his utopian society, colors are bright and flashy to show the world is saying " perfect "but too slick and sterile.

short, Superman Red Son is a comic that I really like. It's a different view of this super hero that we all know. Darker, more tormented, more adult, this comic is likely to appeal to both genre fans and newcomers or those who do not like Superman for his own side sir. It is well written, beautifully drawn. And nothing to spoil the ending is quite clever. Mark Millar was one time proposed to Warner (which owns DC Comics) an idea of the film adaptation of Superman in three films. The project has unfortunately not been successful and it a shame given the vision that Mark Millar's character.

Alabama Football Helmet Number 22

Lorant Deutsch - Metronome

De Lutece in Paris. And more generally, from Gaul to France. How did we go through these steps? There are two versions, or at least two points of view. There is history with the general H, one that we are taught in school. And then there's the small history, one that is built with the stories and hopes of the time. Both of us happy but the same events they do not direct the spotlight on the same actors, or the facts. Only the shading is present on both tables.
Lorant Deutsch offers here a little tour of the history of France through the two windows. He tells us through the past twenty-one underground stations. In every century, it stops. It begins with the Ile de la Cité, birthplace of ancient Paris, and we end up by the Defence, the birthplace of modern Paris. In fact, the circuit is somewhat circular since Lutetia is actually born from the Seine, but at Nanterre. It was the Romans, during the reconstruction, who expressed that it might be better and safer to install the city on this cluster of islands in the middle of the Seine. And go for the history of a city that has grown tremendously through the years. A city whose fate has followed that of France, and has even started.

If you love Lorant Deutsch and his wit, you will love this book. He recounts past events by mixing the two stories I mentioned. So, we are caught in the course of the narrative. A small weakness is Paris and passionate history, and this passion loses from time to time. I mean, sometimes it enters a little too descriptive in the street or other remnants of long ago. If you do not know Paris, these passages may seem breadsticks. Otherwise, it can be very interesting to take the book to go walking in Paris reading the signs of the author.
You learn a lot about Paris and her past. Why Paris first? Has it always been the capital of France? And when France is France and it became more Gaul? This book is really exciting. Lorant Deutsch is a great storyteller who captivates his audience. To read or even just to browse.

Locke & Key, Vol. 2: Head Games - Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez

Writer: Joe Hill
Artist: Gabriel Rodriguez
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Pages: 144
Price: $ 24.99 (HC) / $ 19.99 (BPT)

After the sudden death of their father, three siblings are just beginning to Locke rebuild their lives when Bode discovered a key to the extraordinary power. What would happen if overcome his fears, or become an expert in any field was as simple as turning a key in a lock? This could cost you your life, especially if Dodge, the evil creature who happens to be Locke's sworn enemy, managed to seize the key.

Head Games is the second volume of Locke & Key, Joe Hill series whose first volume enchanted me. At the end of Welcome to Lovecraft, Dodge, the creature trapped in the well of Locke succeeded in escape and turned into Zack Wells. Bode discovered him when a new key-shaped head. So naturally is what commences Head Games, on finding that the door should open this key. For his part, Zack Wells posing for the nephew of Ellie Whedon, high school teacher of Lovecraft, befriends with Tyler and Kinsey does not suspect anything. But things do not go as planned and soon Zack / Dodge is recognized by Professor Joe Ridgeway, an old teacher, who sees him Lucas Caravaggio, a former student died there over twenty years and was friends with the father of Locke children ... What a tragedy that resulted in the deaths of several students took place in Lovecraft twenty years earlier? What is really the link between Zack / Dodge and Ellie Whedon? And most importantly, what door opens so that famous key-shaped head?

This second volume was unfortunately left a mixed impression. We find, however, many of the qualities of the first volume. It is always written with great sensitivity. We find the influence of fathers in the care that is made to the description of characters and Joe Hill plays a lot of empathy that is felt for them. The other thing in common with the father, is the use of flashbacks. I had already noted in my review of volume one and I found that Joe Hill's aptly used, is always the case.

Unfortunately, history is a bit less rhythmic. This is mainly due to the absence of a character like Sam Lesser, the murderer, who by his side psychopath brought this little bit of madness that was racing history. This role is not taken by Zack / Dodge is very discreet in a more mysterious. Joe Hill wanted to ask and expand the plot. You can not blame him and I am sure in the long run it will pay off. The fact remains that the pace of decline is notable. But it is ultimately a minor issue because what really bothered me is that famous key-shaped head and it opens. In principle, the idea is good. It allows to explore the fears and frustrations of each character and gives rise to scenes frankly successful as long flashback about Ellie Whedon or "psychoanalysis" a bit special Kinsey. Simply, graphically AC not working not. It's hard to believe it and it tends to turn even when the joke. Damage.

To see the third volume is with how this story will evolve. What is certain is that despite the problem mentioned, the desire to learn more and progress in history is always present.

Are Old Pop Bottles Worth

The City of the Sun and other narrative heliotrope - Ugo Bellagamba

Author: Ugo Bellagamba
Editions: The Belial '
Pages: 281
Price: € 15

Paul Grimal has disappeared, leaving behind only a set of notes concerning the City of the Sun, this fabulous mental construction of the Italian Tommaso Campanella. Indices all converging towards the unthinkable: City of the Sun exists, somewhere ... But how to reach a utopia?

For over two centuries, the dynasty of the Bonapartes rule over the world. A rule should be legitimized by the exploration mission that leads the Aiglon on the edge of the solar system. Unless a political assassination does not upset the imperial plans ...

The Milky Way is dying, consumed by entropy. For the myriad of peoples it houses, there is no alternative. Especially since the end of time is orchestrated by the Archons, eager to experience the Apocalypse to completion. Yet Hu, race and low minor refuse the inevitable, including Hu-Jon, ready for the craziest odysseys.

Three historical adventure, three philosophical epics ...

With The City Sun, Ugo Bellagamba offers us three pieces of rare ambition where science fiction is at the heart of our history, somewhere between Robert Silverberg and Umberto Eco.

Three novellas, three stories reflecting the theme of Utopia, three stories exploring the complexities of history. That is what has this book written by Ugo Bellagamba. And it turns out that one of these stories is an alternate history, making of this book is eligible Winter Time Travel .

City of the Sun: Here the novella that gives this collection its title. The story is about Laura Firpo, a historian who goes in search of her lover left on the trail of the sun city, a utopian city built in Provence by the Dominican monk Tommasco Campanella. I enjoyed this novella is summarized, it is true, for the most part, to a treasure hunt between two lovers. However, Ugo Bellagamba cleverly manipulates history and sent us on the trail of this city in the manner of a Robert Langdon. It's clever and fun. Unfortunately, the end is not at the rest of the story. The discovery of this city does not convince me. Ugo Bellagamba uses a ploy to say the least easy even lazy. Lazy, the final fall is also because under the guise of open ended, Ugo Bellagamba falls into the facility and refused to conclude his story.

APOP Republican Here it is the alternate history of this collection. In this story, not only Napoleon was not defeated by the English, but he built a theocratic empire, based the Egyptian deities, dominating all of Europe. Two hundred years later, the eaglet is leading a mission to explore Titan, a moon of Saturn, aboard Champollion, unaware that the Republican revolutionaries are preparing to take control of the ship and overthrow the empire . This story, the best of the collection, reminded me a lot " When there are apples on March ", a new uchronic the same author, sprinkled with bits of "2001, A Space Odyssey" .

Last filament Andromeda Here, I'll make it short and refer you to the 4th coverage because I confess, I have not hooked up with this story and I did not understand much. I would not be able to say what it's about.

Ultimately, this collection is uneven but still left me a good impression. Almost two good stories. It may possibly blame the characters a little lighter, and yet would shun her ca pleasure. In short I recommend, especially as it is well researched and well written with a vocabulary.

Scene Nicknames For Ellie

Locke & Key Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft - Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez

Writer: Joe Hill
Artist: Gabriel Rodriguez
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Pages: 158
Price: $ 24.99 (HC) / $ 19.99 (BPT)

Keyhouse: a strange mansion in New England. A haunted mansion, the doors can transform those who dare cross them ... After the brutal murder of their father, Tyler, and Kinsey Bode discover their new home, expecting to find the shelter they need to heal their wounds. But a shadowy creature was waiting for them to open the scariest all doors ...

Following the general good reviews on the web, I got myself in vo course, the first three volumes of this comic book written by Joe Hill, who is none other than the son of King of Bangor, Stephen King himself. Great well I can because this comic is really excellent.

The story is very well balanced mix between fantasy and thriller. Tyle, Kinsey and Bode just moved with their mother and uncle in an old Victorian style house following the murder of their father. This house holds many secrets including a door system that does not take long to discover Bode, the youngest of three, which opened with the correct keys have some curious properties. In addition, there are a mysterious force trapped in a well for many years, and Sam, the murderer of the father of the hero, who returns home in search of a mysterious key ...

The scenario is very well written and full of good ideas such as door system that is full of promise. The characters are complex and very interesting. Hill and Joe tells his story using wisely flashbacks that are always in tune with the present and to better understand the psychology of the hero, torn by doubts and remorse at the death of their father. The graphics of Gabriel Rodriguez may at first seem a bit too childish and too cartoony. Do not be fooled by this, history can be tough when needed and some boards are bloody. And then it checks out well with the story, told from the perspective of three children, has an air of kinship with the universe by Neil Gaiman.

Vivement la suite, which is expected soon to me because I am the serial vo. Incidentally, the English level is not unique. For those who do not or can not read vo, this series is published in French by Milady Graphics. Only the first volume is available now.

Sakura Lemon Fanfiction

Beyond Leviathan

Beyond is the story of three characters are haunted by death and the questions it raises. George is an American of humble origins, affected by a "gift" of clairvoyance that weighs on him like a curse. Marie, a French journalist, faces a near-death experience, and has been permanently disrupted. And when Marcus, a young boy from London, to be lost to him the dearest and most essential, it starts desperately seeking answers to his questions. George, Mary and Marcus are guided by the same need to know, the same quest. Their destinies will cross fi ne by trying to answer the mystery of the hereafter.

recent years, Clint Eastwood has made a good habit to chain the good movies at a rate of one every years. There have been a good memory of our fathers was not extra but it was offset by the magnificent Letters from Iwo Jima. Well 2011 will have to be marked with a black stone as Beyond, Clint Eastwood delivers us from memory, the worst film of his career as a director. Certainly, after the disappointment Sofia Coppola , this January is not tender with the big guns.

With this film, Clint Eastwood wanted to play the "author" and give us his film choir. Simply, everyone is not Robert Altman or Paul Thomas Anderson and Clint Eastwood is not visibly comfortable in this exercise. Indeed it is no more comfortable with fantasy, because despite the theme of his film, this one will strive to stay in the farthest possible and to treat its subject as something perfectly normal. Just as some paint with their feet, others communicate with the dead. Hmm not sure. Not especially credible. So I know I will be told that the film's subject is not there, he speaks of Death with a capital M, grief, life ... What it all. Except that these three little stories we tell Clint Eastwood is not very interesting. They are mostly dealt with on a very tearful fashion with soft music, violins and pianos. That plank walls ridicule, especially in the final which should greatly excite the readers biba. It would go well in an adaptation of the latest bestseller or Marc Levy Anna Gavalda. But in a movie directed by Clint Eastwood, it makes stain.

And then there is also the problems of the actors. Even if we have already seen Matt Damon more convincing, he still manages to hold its own in the game But then Cecile de France is just not possible. I like it Cecile de France. It is generally a good actress but her performance here is the level of more beautiful life, like almost all French players elsewhere. Mylène Jampanoï in a small role as a journalist is also very bad. Faced with such a widespread disaster, I wonder if the problem is in the direction of the actors. Clint Eastwood does not speak French and do not know the music of our language, it does not help. Besides that, the special effects are almost completely missed the anecdotal.

The wide array of high quality films that Clint Eastwood made in recent years can easily forgive this big slowdown. But can it would be preferable for the next film he makes a small break, just to relax and choose their history. For I am convinced that this story is not for him.

How To Get Pokemon On Your Mac

- Scott Westerfeld The Green Hornet

Author: Scott Westerfeld
Publisher: Pocket Youth
Pages: 440
Price: € 19

1914. At the dawn of the First World War. On the one hand, Darwinists (English, French, Russian), followers of the kings of all biological and genetic manipulation. The other, civilization ultra-mechanical, clankers (Germans, Austrians, Turkey.) War broke out with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Alek, his son, he also threatened with death flees on a biped robot fighter bristling with machine guns. He managed to reach Switzerland and hides in an old castle in ruins. Meanwhile, the young Scottish Deryn Sharp, an orphan, wears boy and enlisted in the Air Service (British air forces.) After a hectic first test flight at the controls of a flying jellyfish, she joined the crew of the Leviathan, a kind of whale giant inflated with hydrogen. On board a cargo biological, classified top secret. They fly to Constantinople, but the German attack and the Leviathan crashed in the Alps. This is where Deryn, still disguised as a man, meets explosive Alek ...

Roman youth, slightly uchronic heavily steampunk, Leviathan is the first volume of a trilogy to be completed in 2012 in our beautiful country. Who says young adult novel, often said writing simple and lightweight. Yes but not as many in fact. The story, well documented, is much more polished than the majority youth novels. As he explains in the afterword of his book, Scott Westerfeld wanted to keep a share of historical accuracy. Thus, it is always the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, which is the starting point of the first world war. The same author develops a theory that had its heyday among historians. The assassination of Archduke had in fact been sponsored by the Germans or the Austrians because it opposed the war. Thus, there is no feeling of superficiality that I had felt for " Those who know "by Pierre Bordage. When the characters, another point often problematic in children's novels, if they are just cliches, they are sufficiently tailored to be interresting. There is little doubt from the beginning that the relationship Alek / Deryn finish at one time or another evolved into romance but it is well done, without undue sentimentality and romance teen rose water. Hoping that the author manages to stay the course until the end of the trilogy.

If our couple of teenagers is generally not successful, the characters in the background are currently under worked. I think especially of the tale is the Volger surly service and above Dr. Nora Barlow, who is the archetype of the female heroine of romance steampunk. Attractive woman, intelligent, cultivated, in rebellion against the conventions of his time vis-à-vis the fairer sex, she is too perfect to be credible too long. Is unfortunate but the figure may change. Because apart from AC, it's almost flawless. The atmosphere steampunk is a success. If Clankers and large machines are fairly standard for this kind of story, the Darwinists are a great find. Even if the idea of a whale floating inflated with hydrogen does not want the road for one second on a scientific level, graphically it is a success and the opposition in style between these two technologies gives rise to such different scenes of battles and exciting novel set in pictures very well by the illustrations of Keith Thompson . Besides, the whole book as a whole is captivating. Even if the outcome is no real surprise, the low rate and the various adventures rarely maintain the reader's attention to a good level. The story is constructed as a series, an episode consisting of two chapters, we take pleasure in finding week after week.

Leviathan is a novel that I highly recommend it. The characters are engaging and eventful history. Play smart and entertaining, the novel by Scott Westerfeld will appeal to a broad audience of all ages.

Herpes Third Trimester

Britt Reid, editor of the Daily Sentinel, fights crime under the identity of The Green Hornet. He is assisted in his task by Kato, his valet, an expert in martial arts and the driver Bertha Belle (Black Beauty), a car full of gadgets.

remake of the cult series of the 60 who showed Bruce Lee in the role of Kato, The Green Hornet is the new film by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Be Kind, Rewind and The Science of dreams). So that could do what the director helmed such a franchise priori far removed from his world Usual? The answer is simple: a high quality entertainment. The Green Hornet is a superhero film all there from classic on paper. The story is that of Britt Reid, a rich heir to a media group that give meaning to his life, hitherto idle, decides to become the Green Hornet, a costumed vigilante at night will do battle with the underworld. He is assisted by Kato, his servant and sidekick to the city, martial arts expert and inventor of gadgets of all kinds, at night. Together they patrol the city on board The Black Beauty, a Chrystler Imperial full of gadgets to make James Bond drool with envy.

Michel Gondry makes a real feat in this film, that of preserving a spirit pulp very, very 60s, adding to his film critical of modernity key interest to the general public. The Green Hornet is of course very reminiscent of Batman with his bat-cave, the bat-mobile, his bat-gadgets. In both cases it is the same type of hero billionaire by day and vigilante by night. But the reference of Gondry's not Nolan's Batman, or even that of Burton. No it is the Adam West Batman series immortalized in the 60s if kitsch with its onomatopoeic that appear on the screen. Moreover, the end credits gives pride to those bing, bam, boom so charming and I began to regret their absence during the movie.

Anyway, this film is already a success in the state which owes much to his actors. The couple Green Hornet / Kato works wonderfully. If I had initially questioned the choice of Seth Rogen for the lead, they have been quickly swept-post so the result is obvious. Both actors complement each other perfectly, both in the action scenes in the comedy scenes. Each has its register, each has a specialty and they never give shade. But a good superhero movie can not be fully successful without a good villain. Michel Gondry has called for it to Christoph Waltz, which we redid the coup of Colonel Hans Landa Inglorious Bastard and it works incredibly well even if the print copy and paste is real. Whatever, this actor was born to embody that kind of character, cruel, sadistic but at the same time quirky, funny and somehow endearing.

Visually, found the leg of Michel Gondry, former clipper. It is full of visual effects flashy but perfectly in the spirit of the film such as a split screen that recalls hellish cutting a comic strip. Michel Gondry also fun with 3D. The explosions sent us in the face amount of debris. Gondry also triturated prospects and depth in the fight sequences in slow motion for example. Some effects are a bit too much like hit bottle caps flying toward the viewer. But whatever. The idea is primarily to entertain the viewer gets value for money and comes out with the banana on your face. The mission is fully completed on that side.

If not making The Green Hornet, it has the merit of not getting bogged down in a highly codified genre. Michel Gondry has managed to impose his pate and delivers a fun and effective movie. The balance between humor and action is perfect. Actors cabotinent happily. They are fun and it is contagious. We may be regretting some action scenes, especially the latter, sometimes unreadable because of mounting cut too. But it's really quibbling history this film is so full of qualities. In short, The Green Hornet is THE entertainment show early this year in cinema. A candy to consume without moderation.

What To Write On A Bachelorette Card

Mark Waid & Alex Ross - Kingdom Come

A future uncertain. Future, but to a period of unpredictable weather. The classic heroes of this world have retired or are gone into hiding. One event changed everything. Something that injured the first one. Superman has been repudiated by those whom he was so anxious to protect. Not enough results. They have preferred Magog. He who did not hesitate to kill The Joker after killing more. An age has passed.
Time passes. Wonder Woman is disowned by her sister Amazons and seeks to understand what has become the world today. Who are these new heroes after the method of Magog? Parallel unacceptable villains follow the same path. They kill or are killed. The Amazon wants to restore some order. And she'll see who can change things. Still must he wants? And it is not won! Superman does not want anything to do with this. But the total invasion of Kansas by a cloud of deadly radiation is the sign of the approaching fall.
Everything happens until the arrival of Armageddon. The semi-gods were fighting under the eyes of the spectrum who waits for the right moment to act. And amidst all this, there are humans with their weaknesses, and doubt. Who will save them?

Kingdom Come is a masterpiece of Alex Ross and Mark Waid.
released in 1996, we are in full flood heroes picture made in which violence is supposed to be synonymous with reality and talent. Our two authors decided to give their views. Alex Ross, the designer, gives us realism. He painted model with all its characters. He pulls out a style of photography where the idea of movement is present in each cell. We saw the story, and each box there is a table alone. It's simple, I love the style of Ross. With each replay, you see details that we have not seen before. Drawings are discovered each time.
Besides that, Mark Waid gives us a bleak landscape of the future of DC Comics. Violence and radicalism took precedence over the good faith and wisdom of the ancients. Through this, we read a true detective story where each character takes his place until his turn to move checkers. The tension builds until final explosive.
For all these reasons, Kingdom Come is a classic comics, and comics in general. It stands on its own. Then you discover the style of Alex Ross. You can then continue with Uncle Sam. For my part, I'll tell you very quickly.
