Herpes Third Trimester

Britt Reid, editor of the Daily Sentinel, fights crime under the identity of The Green Hornet. He is assisted in his task by Kato, his valet, an expert in martial arts and the driver Bertha Belle (Black Beauty), a car full of gadgets.

remake of the cult series of the 60 who showed Bruce Lee in the role of Kato, The Green Hornet is the new film by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Be Kind, Rewind and The Science of dreams). So that could do what the director helmed such a franchise priori far removed from his world Usual? The answer is simple: a high quality entertainment. The Green Hornet is a superhero film all there from classic on paper. The story is that of Britt Reid, a rich heir to a media group that give meaning to his life, hitherto idle, decides to become the Green Hornet, a costumed vigilante at night will do battle with the underworld. He is assisted by Kato, his servant and sidekick to the city, martial arts expert and inventor of gadgets of all kinds, at night. Together they patrol the city on board The Black Beauty, a Chrystler Imperial full of gadgets to make James Bond drool with envy.

Michel Gondry makes a real feat in this film, that of preserving a spirit pulp very, very 60s, adding to his film critical of modernity key interest to the general public. The Green Hornet is of course very reminiscent of Batman with his bat-cave, the bat-mobile, his bat-gadgets. In both cases it is the same type of hero billionaire by day and vigilante by night. But the reference of Gondry's not Nolan's Batman, or even that of Burton. No it is the Adam West Batman series immortalized in the 60s if kitsch with its onomatopoeic that appear on the screen. Moreover, the end credits gives pride to those bing, bam, boom so charming and I began to regret their absence during the movie.

Anyway, this film is already a success in the state which owes much to his actors. The couple Green Hornet / Kato works wonderfully. If I had initially questioned the choice of Seth Rogen for the lead, they have been quickly swept-post so the result is obvious. Both actors complement each other perfectly, both in the action scenes in the comedy scenes. Each has its register, each has a specialty and they never give shade. But a good superhero movie can not be fully successful without a good villain. Michel Gondry has called for it to Christoph Waltz, which we redid the coup of Colonel Hans Landa Inglorious Bastard and it works incredibly well even if the print copy and paste is real. Whatever, this actor was born to embody that kind of character, cruel, sadistic but at the same time quirky, funny and somehow endearing.

Visually, found the leg of Michel Gondry, former clipper. It is full of visual effects flashy but perfectly in the spirit of the film such as a split screen that recalls hellish cutting a comic strip. Michel Gondry also fun with 3D. The explosions sent us in the face amount of debris. Gondry also triturated prospects and depth in the fight sequences in slow motion for example. Some effects are a bit too much like hit bottle caps flying toward the viewer. But whatever. The idea is primarily to entertain the viewer gets value for money and comes out with the banana on your face. The mission is fully completed on that side.

If not making The Green Hornet, it has the merit of not getting bogged down in a highly codified genre. Michel Gondry has managed to impose his pate and delivers a fun and effective movie. The balance between humor and action is perfect. Actors cabotinent happily. They are fun and it is contagious. We may be regretting some action scenes, especially the latter, sometimes unreadable because of mounting cut too. But it's really quibbling history this film is so full of qualities. In short, The Green Hornet is THE entertainment show early this year in cinema. A candy to consume without moderation.
