Can You Get Pregnant Wearing Jeans

Somewhere

Johnny Marco, the actor lives in the bad reputation of the Chateau Marmont hotel in Los Angeles. He will receive an unexpected visitor: her 11 year old daughter.

Since Virgin Suicide each film by Sofia Coppola is eagerly awaited. In just four films, the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola has made himself a name and his last feature film, Somewhere, arrived in France crowned a Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival last. Unfortunately, as I loved Virgin Suicide and Lost in Translation (I still have not seen Marie Antoinette), I hated all Somewhere, film meaningless and emotions.

But really, what's Somewhere? Well, it's Johnny Marco filmed in close-up during 1h40. Johnny Marco drove his car, Johnny Marco matte strippers, Johnny takes a shower Marco, Marco flies Johnny, Johnny Marco is the promotion of his film, Johnny Marco fucking a groupie, Johnny Marco played Guitar Hero with her daughter, Johnny Marco goes swimming with his daughter, Johnny Marco eats ice cream with his daughter, Johnny Marco takes the plane, Johnny Marco realizes that it has a shitty life, Johnny Marco decides to change his life shit, end credits, here the output. Frankly, if it was for us to say this, should not spend millions of dollars for us to make a film boring and empty. After two minutes we got the message. And what about directing? Sparse, cold, impersonal, inexpressive actors, about a rickety, an emotion-mast. It looks like the bad Gus Van Sant. It's filmed as a documentary about the hunt for partridge, without style or rather a non-style. Somewhere, it is the emptiness of a banner made pretentious cinephile.

And say that this film won the Golden Lion at Black Swan. I just do not understand. A bin if Quentin Tarantino was president of the jury. It sure is when a friend who presides is easier. Because it passed like a letter in the mail with Isabelle Huppert and her Gold Award given to Michael Haneke, it would have been wrong to interfere with the father Quentin. I love Quentin Tarantino as a director, but he must stop chairing juries festival.
