Funny time to being Jewish. Funny time to be a cop. It falls ill for Meyer Landsman! In Sitka, Alaska, became frigid and desolate homeland of the Jews, he is the most decorated inspector of police Yiddish. Responsible for bringing peace in this community prone to mysteries man has yet sunk into alcoholism, destroying his marriage to pass. Exiled to the hotel, he discovered one morning the body of a murdered junkie in the lobby. But why this pressure to drop the investigation? Landsman persists: this dead please him and he refuses to let his murder unpunished ... In a world where criminals have religious and exchanged their skills, not the Promised Land to him have seemed more distant ...

This column will be short for this novel by Michael Chabon, winner of the 2007 Nebula and Hugo Awards and Locus in 2008 ... Just ca! Short because I did not finish. I miserably thrown in the towel at the start of page 184. From what I understood, the Jews were thrown by Israeli Arabs in 1948 and they found shelter in a little piece of Alaska that has been transferred for a period of 60 years. Period after which this little piece of Alaska will return to America. The story takes place in 2008 to two months of this surrender and it follows a police detective, Meyer Landsman who missed all of the perfect. Alcoholic, divorced, depressed, he lives in a seedy hotel and one night the manager came to see because a customer was shot in the head. It will therefore follow a police investigation strange in this paranoid Jewish community, amid surrender and parts failure.

about being clear, I hated it. I'm still hung 184 pages long, hoping that the novel finally starts ... Not a chance! At one point, when it comes to replay three times in a paragraph without figuring out what it's cause, when at the end of a sentence we have already forgotten the beginning, it is necessary to say stop. I never got into the book. There are lots of Yiddish words but does not interfere with AC eventually as many. A glossary is included at the end of the book. The problem would rather than what the author wants to tell I'm not interested for a moment. What does he tell anyway? I'm almost convinced that is the police investigation is a pretext for exploring the Jewish society paranoid. It appears that it is full of humor ... Without doubt, but I do not have the keys to understand it. I once had a bit of the feeling of being a vegetarian who tries to read a book on 101 ways to cook beef.

Good, otherwise history that these 184 pages are not a complete waste of time, is someone who managed to read this book until after tell me if at one time or another because SF ca loan or away ... Because I still wonder. How this book has been able to get the three most prestigious awards in SF literature? Not that I doubt the literary qualities of this book, although I have not found. Simply, I wonder where is the SF in all this ... Unless of course that is considered as a kind of alternate history be mandatory science fiction ...
